This training provides attendees with practical, useful strategies for working with children and families who have experienced trauma. Using best practices, science and a social-emotional framework, we look at how we can best help children (and their parents) build resilience. We also explore our own professional framework to help us uncover and explore ways we can take our work with children and families to the next level. Participants should already understand basic information related to ACES and trauma’s impact on the brain, body and behavior.

Learn how to build on what you know about the brain and body’s responses to trauma.

Find the tools you need to help children understand how their brains work.

.

Learn proven strategies that will help you guide children in breathing, brain breaks and mindfulness. These easy to use practices help children calm their nervous systems and build coping skills, focus & resilience.

Hi, I’m Gina Hernandez

I am the Senior Vice President of ChildWIN. I have a MA in Counseling, am a Certified Infant Massage Instructor, a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional and also hold a Certificate in Play Therapy.

I also hold a Post Masters Certificate in Trauma: Clinical Foundations and is the co-developer of the Healing Hearts & Building Resilience trauma training series for ChildWIN. I co-created the Trauma Transformation Initiative which has been featured nationally as an innovative and research based approach to changing the lens we have when working with children. I work in schools throughout New Jersey and beyond to help educators recognize and respond to trauma in our students in a way that builds resilience and creates more positive connections. I work in the classroom with students to promote “Peaceful Practices” to help them learn to breathe, focus and regulate their emotions. Social emotional learning is embedded in all my trainings in one way or another!

I am also a child therapist working in Ewing, NJ and I'm the proud parent/guardian of 4 children. I like to hike, love the beach and when I'm not working (whenever that is!) I like to travel with my children.
